Which foods are best to help a 6 month old baby go to the toilet?
Which foods are best to give to ensure 6 month old baby does not find it difficult to go to the toilet? I have heard pears are good but anything else?
Answer: Hi There, When you start out on solids, it is generally good to begin water in a sipper cup at the same time. Babies need more water than we do to process food, and this can help avoid constipation. Its important to progress through the foods and textures. It`s not common that babies experience constipation through a lack of fibre in the early days given they tend to eat mostly fruit and vegetables. So water is important or an extra breastfeed if you are nursing. Using foods or juices to help a bub `go to the toilet` can create other nutritional issues. So keep offering baby lots of lovely healthy foods and tiny sips of water over the day. Don`t be tempted to sweeten it, it can really delay water acceptance and of course the sugars aren`t ideal. I have some tip sheets on Huggies on starting solids and also a book, they might give you some more ideas on foods to offer at different ages, the links are: Solids Which foods when and fridge chart Also on the link below is a great chart on solids I did for Organic Bubs, its perfect for the fridge! If things don`t improve pop into see your CHN or GP. All the best, Leanne
