His poo goes really green when he is on the Heinz formula
Firstly thank you for taking time to read this. My son is almost three months old and bottle fed. My two others were breastfed for 1 year and so I have not got much experience with formula.
I have tried several brands, with Heinz coming out best. He is most settled and sleeps well on it. One thing though, his poo goes really green when he is on it.
I have tried:
S29 gold, which makes him constipated.
Nan gold: very unsettled
Karicare gold: goes right through him, poos almost after every bottle.
With all these his poo is at least mustard in colour.
Is it ok to give him the Heinz, or should I get him tested for some kind of intollorance?
Thanks again and hope to hear from you soon!
from three months you can have a simple breath test done for at least lactose intolerance. That could be a good place to start. Once you get to solids if you find things get a bit tricky then yes, pop into your GP and ask about allergy testing. Fingers crossed it is just a settling process and nothing else will occur.
Nan Gold is a surprise, it is usually well tolerated. Often whey dominant formulas are best, and after that hydrolysed formulas (with cows` milk that is not in tact) are trialed. I`m not familiar with the Heinz, but baby formula in Australia and NZ are made to very strict guidelines and so reasonably similar. If the formula you have him on now is working, is age appropriate and he is growing at his usual rate then likely it is a good idea to stick with it.
Keep up the good work, you are new ground so it can be a bit of a `baptism of fire`.
All the best,
