  4. My 8 1/2 month old rarely drinks his bottle of formula, doesn't want mashed food, and is still waking up to twice a night for a 250-300ml bottle feed. Can I start him on cows milk to try and fill him up? I feed him a lot of dinner (rice, eggs, meat etc),

I feed him a lot of dinner (rice, eggs, meat etc), but his hunger wins out over sleep. He was born 10pd 11, so it is possible to be hungry. Is Cows milk ok to introduce at his age?

Answer: Hi, At 8.5 months of age he's still too young and his digestive system too immature to digest cow's milk. From a nutrition perspective this won't supply his body with the nutrients he needs to grow and thrive. Only breast milk or formula can do this. At 8.5 months old he still needs around 4 bottles in 24 hours of around 240 mls and 3 solid meals. Aim not to feed him overnight and offer him water instead. You can offer him cow's milk in his solid foods eg yoghurt and custard and milky sauces but as his major milk source it's lacking in so much that he needs at this age and stage. Importantly, iron which his brain needs. Best Jane
