He "fights " the tiredness and it takes about two hours to get him to sleep

Hi Maree, My son is 13 months old and I am having trouble getting him to settle and go to sleep. I watch for the tired signs and then try and get him to sleep but he "fights " the tiredness and it takes about two hours to get him to sleep. Once he is down in the cot he does sleep through the night its just the constant struggle of getting him there. He still has two daytime sleeps or one large afternoon sleep during the day. Controlled crying just doesn`t work for us, is there any other alternatives??
Thanks Tonya

Answer: Hi Tonya, You say controlled comforting is not working but neither is what you are battling 2 hours with either. CC can take up to 3 weeks and is very hard to do, but you may be better off persisting with guided techniques rather than trying too many things and confusing you and baby. Babies and toddlers thrive on routine and learn from repetition at the moment he is fighting and seems to be winning the battle. Cheers, Maree
