I took her to the pediatrician today who told me to stop giving her night feeds and settle her back to sleep

Maree,
I have a 6mth old daughter. My daughter is waking 1-2 times a night for feeds. She is very small (only 5.5kg) which is on the 3% for weight. I took her to the pediatrician today who told me to stop giving her night feeds and settle her back to sleep.. does this sound right?
I feed her before she goes down for ther day sleeps & night. Is this the wrong thing to do? I think i`ve got her in a good routine. 1hr in the morning, 2-3 around lunch and 1hr late arvo and bed about 7.30. She does not take a dummy.

Answer: Hi Michelle, You wouldn`t expect a baby to sleep right through before 6 months and she is small so I would give her the benefit of the doubt for a bit longer. She may still require one overnight feed but you could resettle for other wakings if not due for a feed. The most important thing you should do is resettle her awake into the cot after a night feed and always settle wake into the cot during the day so you know she knows how to sleep independently so when she`s ready to sleep right thorugh she can. Cheers, Maree
