Waking 4 to 8 times a night

Hi Maree, My son lochlan has just gone 9 months old and still not sleeping thru the night. Originally he was only having 1 bottle thru the night but in the past 2-3 wks he has been having 2. Lochlan will wake up any where from 4 to 8 times a night to have his bottles because he wont drink a whole bottle at once. He has three meals a day but isn`t the best eater, he may only eat 1/2 to maybe 3/4 of a 120g tin in a sitting, and also has finger food thru the day. How do i go about dropping those feeds at night and getting him to sleep all thru the night.
pls help

Answer: Hi Kirsty, From about 6 months on a baby should be able to sleep 7pm to 7am without and overnight feed. It sounds like he is becoming dependent on a comfort feed to sleep. If he is feeding so much during the night this will explain his reduced intake during the day and it becomes a bit of a cycle. You could try a 10 pm rollover feed . The rollover feed will give you confidence that he has had a feed at 10pm and you can go straight into using settling techniques. The most important thing is that you settle him awake into his cot at night initially and even if you are feeding him at night once, be sure to resettle him awake into the cot again so he learns to sleep independently. You can get an overview of our settling program from the Your Baby`s Sleep section of the Huggies site or for more detail, and a visual demonstration; It`s Time To Sleep DVD & BOOK. Cheers, Maree
