She wants to know more and I don`t know what the next step is

Hi Brett, my two and little bit year old daughter seems to take everything in too quickly. She can tell you every letter of the alphabet (as in, if she sees a word will tell you each letter), even to the extent of say "p" or "puh." Can count out up to 10 items, but counts to 30 and recognises numbers. And colours are a breeze. All this was learnt "accidently", but I am now stuck, she wants to know more and I don`t know what the next step is. I am assuming reading. What books would you suggest. We love "Where is the Green Sheep" by Mem Fox and "Catch that Kitten" by Pamela Duncan Edwards. I love the Charlie and Lola books by Lauren Child. Any others that would help her out?

Finally, I was reading a Mem Fox book on how to teach your kids to read. Just wondering if you knew of Mem Foxs ways and if you agree with her?

Thank you so much,

Answer: Hi Katherine, We absolutely, wholeheartedly completely agree with Mem Fox`s ways! Mem Fox advocates exposing a child to books - LOTS of books - from the day she is born. By reading aloud to your child you help her develop an understanding of books and the process of reading and set her on the path to literacy and later learning. Even better, a shared reading session is a wonderful bonding experience - you`ll both treasure those moments for the rest of your lives! The best books to choose are ones that you both enjoy and it sounds like you`ve made really good start there. Always feel free to experiment with new books and authors. Some of our favourite authors at the Huggies Bookclub are Julia Donaldson, Eric Carle and, of course, Mem Fox.
