What sort of books are good for a 4.5 yr old boy, when do they start to begin to read? and what books are good for learning to read?
Answer: Hi, Boys differ greatly in the age they first begin to read, but at 4 and a half, your boy may well be at the very early stages of learning to read. While he might not be able to recognise words on a page, he is probably beginning to get his head around the idea of a printed story and can probably recognise a few letters or numbers. To really pick up his interest in learning to read, try and find some books that match his interests. If he likes, say, dinosaurs or trucks or police, then try and find books that feature them. Failing that, humour is always a good start. Something like Julia Donaldson`s "Snail and the Whale" or Jez Alborough`s "Where`s My Teddy" would be ideal. Toilet-humour is always a big winner. Try the "Walter the Farting Dog" series, for example. All the best, Brett
