Wired bra while still producing milk?

I have stopped breast feeding about 9 -10 days ago and I still have breast milk but I was wondering if its safe to wear a wired bra? For a little more support I have been told it can cause infection before but I'm not completely sure what to believe.

Answer: You will still produce milk for some weeks after you've stopped breastfeeding, this is normal and nothing to worry about. Depending on the age of your baby and how long you BF for, will determine the length of time it takes for your body to stop lactating. The type of bra you wear is all about your own individual comfort and what suits you. Obviously, if the wires are digging into your breasts and you feel uncomfortable then you should probably stick with wearing your maternity bras for a little while longer. But support is important so you may need to adjust the straps, both on the shoulders and the clips at the back to ensure the size is right for you through this transition period. If you develop a breast infection then you're likely not to miss it. Breast tenderness, redness, swelling, a fever and generally feeling unwell are all fairly classic symptoms. You will find that with the end to regular breast emptying and feeding that you're breasts will stop producing milk, but depending on the individual woman, this may take days, weeks or even, for some a couple of months. Not to the point of engorgement of course, but certainly some drops of milk appear when the nipples are gently squeezed. You may also have the sensation of "letting down" for some months after you've stopped, again, this is pretty normal. Cheers Jane
