Meatballs with Spaghetti

This hearty family favourite will easily please all members of the family. Encourage your kids to get involved making the meatballs!

Ingredients

Meatballs:

  • 500g lean beef mince
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato sauce
  • 1/2 onion, chopped up
  • 1 clove or teaspoon of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of curry powder
  • 1 teaspoon worchestershire sauce
  • 1/2 a cup of breadcrumbs

Spaghetti:

  • Dried Spaghetti

Spaghetti Sauce:

  • 1 T olive oil
    *1 can of chopped tomatoes
    *1/2 onion, chopped up
  • 1 clove or teaspoon of garlic
  • Herbs (basil, oregano, thyme, majoram); 1/2 teaspoon of each to taste
  • Cheese, grated (if you like)
  • Basil leaves (if you like)

Instructions

  1. Turn the oven on too 200°c to bake. Make sure that the oven rack is in the middle of the oven.
  2. Get a oven tray ready and put baking paper on it. The meatballs wont stick to the paper and it makes it easy to clean up.
  3. Mix the mince, sauces, onion, garlic, curry powder and breadcrumbs together in a large bowl.
  4. Roll the mix into balls about the size of a golf ball. Sometimes the mix doesn’t roll easy so you need to kind of squish it into a ball shape.
  5. Put the meatballs into the oven tray. Place the meatballs in the oven.
  6. While they are cooking, you can also cook some spaghetti noodles in boiling water. They will both take about 12 minutes to cook.
  7. While the meatballs and spaghetti are cooking, grate some cheese and chop up some basil leaves.
  8. To make the sauce, heat the oil in a pan. Add the garlic & onion; cook till soft. Add the tomatoes and herbs. Cook for 3-4 minutes on a moderate heat.
  9. When the spaghetti is cooked, drain and place on plate/in bowl, then put some meatballs on top. Then pour over some pasta sauce, sprinkle with cheese and basil.
