I`m just wondering if stopping breastfeeding can affect the monthly cycle?

Hi Alex,
I`m just wondering if stopping breastfeeding can affect the monthly cycle? My period returned when my son was 3 months old and came very regularly, but since starting to wean him (about 3 months ago) my cycle is all over the place. My husband and I are ready to try for another baby but don`t even know if I`m ovulating. I don`t know if it`s normal or if I should be concerned.
Thanks,
Bel

Answer: Hi Bel, Yes breastfeeding and weaning can affect your cycle. See how it goes over the next few months and if it stays irregular you may need to see your GP for a check up just in case. You can also look for other signs of ovulation, such as mucous changes as this can also assist you if you are trying to conceive. Best wishes, Alex
