Having read about pre-eclampsia should I be getting this checked?

Hi Alex, I am getting some pain in the top of my abdomen under my left breast. Having read about pre-eclampsia should I be getting this checked. It is not severe and only hurts when I move. I am not getting any other symptoms at this stage. Baby is still moving about and kicking lots. I am 21 weeks pregnant and is my third pregnancy. Had no other complications of this nature. Thanks Rachel

Answer: Hi, More than likely it is not pre-eclampsia. This condition is more common in first pregnancies and quite often there are no obvious symptoms other than an increase in blood pressure that is picked up at an antenatal appointment. Liver and epigastric pain is usually severe and at a later stage of the disease. You may be experiencing a pulled muscle or ligament stretching in this area. Talk it over with your health care professional at your next appointment. Best wishes, Alex
