My prolactin levels were very high. Should I be concerned?

Hi.
I have a two year old son and have been trying to conceive since March this year. My doctor did some blood tests as my periods are a little iregular. Everything was fine, except my prolactin levels were very high.

She has told me to come back in January for another test to see whether they are still high and she may send me to an endroconolgist if they are high.

Should i be concerned? I will be 35 next year also. If my levels are still high, what are my chances of concieving on the medications prescribed for this condition?

Answer: Hi, This is quite a common cause of infertility. You need to wait for the repeat test and if it is still high you will need to see the specialist. They will check if there is a reason why you are producing the higher amount of hormone. If there is no reason found the doctor may try some hormone therapy. This can work quite well and there are a few treatments that can be tried. Best wishes, Alex
